AN ICON RETHOUGHT. 25 YEARS OF THE NEW BEETLE. WE WERE THERE.
From 4 April 2023 to 29 February 2024, the AutoMuseum Wolfsburg hosted the special exhibition ‘An icon reimagined’ to mark the 25th anniversary of the VW Beetle.
On display were popular old acquaintances such as the ‘Beetlemania’, six airbrushed New Beetles or rarely seen studies such as the Ragster or e-Bugster as well as the ‘forefather’ of the New Beetle, the yellow ‘Concept 1’ study.
We, the 38ers Beetle Meet – now: ‘38ers Beetle Meet – Beetle Club Region Wolfsburg e.V.’ – were able to support the special show with monthly changing club exhibits.
On 4 April 2023, we attended the opening of the exhibition together with around 100 guests. Among others, the two designers Andreas Mindt and Chris Lesmana of the ‘New Beetle’ and ‘The Beetle’ as well as some invited guests and local media representatives were also present. A CUP Beetle by Jannik Sander and a New Beetle called ‘Oldschool’ by Birgit and Hartmut Karrasch took centre stage in the exhibition area as a permanent loan. During the opening of the exhibition, the two designers Andreas Mindt and Chris Lesmana from Volkswagen signed the bonnet of ‘Oldschool’.
As part of the exhibition, our association bought the New Beetle ‘Oldschool’ on 2 December 2023 at 12:38 pm for the symbolic price of €1. Click here for the report on our homepage.
In the following months, club members Lucie Wenzel, Silke Rosenberg, Michael Trück, Claudia Büttner, Rolof Wilhelm, Volker Töhne and finally Lucie Wenzel were able to present their beautiful Beetle at the AutoMuseum Wolfsburg on the stage next to the yellow ‘Concept 1’.
We would like to thank the AutoMuseum Wolfsburg Foundation for the trust they have placed in us and for their dedicated, obliging and always friendly co-operation. THANK YOU!
Here are the photos of the beautiful exhibits from the association.
